The Italian SuperEnalotto is a simple game consisting in selecting numbers, which was introduced in 1997 by Sisal SpA, replacing the previous Enalotto, which had operated for 50 years. The object of the game is to match 6 numbers out of 90. Should a player match all of them, they wins the jackpot. Playing SuperEnalotto is similar to the UK Lottery with the difference that you must delete six numbers from 90 and there is the additional Jolly Number. The probability of hitting the jackpot in SuperEnalotto is less than in the UK Lotto, yet SuperEnalotto has the biggest jackpots in the world. with the highest percentage in Italy and one of the biggest lottery win in the world.

How to play SuperEnalotto?

There is one single draw for the six winning numbers and the "Jolly" number and a second independent draw for the "SuperStar" number. The "Jolly" number gives an additional chance to those who have matched 5 numbers. If they also match the "Jolly" number, they'll win a higher "5+1" prize. One must match at least 3 numbers to win. This means that the SuperStar number may be the same as another winning number. Matching it can increase the prize money by up to 100-fold or pay out a fixed amount even if the player fails to match any of the six main numbers.

SuperEnalotto takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 20:00 selecting a random six main numbers and the number of Jolly in a single drawing. The first drawing took place SuperEnalotto on 3 December 1997. Jackpots and other winnings in lottery SuperEnalotto are among the largest in Europe and often reach € 50,000,000.

In 2010, the SuperEnalotto had two major jackpots. One of them fell on February 9 and amounted to € 139,022,314. The main prize was divided between two players who shared six winning numbers and received a € 69,511,157.32 each. The second prize with a value of € 177,729,043.16 on 30 October was the largest accumulatio in the thirteen-year history of SuperEnalotto. The largest so far in Europe, the accumulation was shared among 70 people. Such great rollover accumulations interests not only Italians, but also many Poles who can play via the Internet. The larger the number of players the bigger the jackpots and the better the chance of surpassing the October record.

The probability of hitting "six" in SuperEnalotto is 1 in 622,614,630, and is smaller than in the UK Lotto (The National Lottery) but offers a series of jackpots often following one after the other.

On October 30, 2010 the largest SuperEnalotto pot reached € 177,729,043.16 and was the second biggest win in Europe and fourth in the world after the U.S. Lotteries Mega Millions and PowerBall and the European Euro Millions lottery. Results of the draw on August 30, 2010: 4, 26, 40, 54, 55, 67 ("Jolly Number" 41).

The Basic first-degree jackpot is € 1,300,000 and is rolled over until there is a winner. Currently there is no limit to the size of the SuperEnalotto - "jackpot" or in the number of rollovers which may occur in the Italian lottery.

Who took home nearly 148 million Euros?

The biggest individual winner in the SuperEnalotto chose to remain anonymous. Therefore the media, newspapers and Internet portals had only rudimentary often unreliable information. Of the largest individual lottery winner it is known only that he is a 47-year old Italian man living in a small village in the province of Massa Bagnone Carr in Tuscany. On Friday evening of 18 August 2009 at a Roman bar called Biffi, he bought a €2 voucher for the Saturday draw, which won him the enormous prize of € 147,807,300.
